Oakridge has been speaking at a number of events throughout April sharing their expertise to help business owners and leaders adopt new skills required for 21st Century businesses to succeed. These events have been focusing on VUCA – Building and Leading a Growing Business in a VUCA World.
Originally adapted by the military as a leadership initiative for those involved in combat, VUCA is an acronym now being used widely in the business world;
Volatility – where things change fast but not in a predictable trend or repeatable pattern;
Uncertainty – where major disruptive changes occur frequently and the past is no longer an accurate predictor of the future;
Complexity – where there are numerous difficult to understand causes and mitigating factors involved and Ambiguity – where the causes and the “who, what, where, how and why” behind the things that are happening are unclear and hard to ascertain.
Brigit Egan, (left) director of Oakridge, a leading Stockport business providing training and coaching to help businesses and individuals achieve success, recently shared her advice and knowledge on VUCA at the Marketing Stockport Members Meeting held at Man Diesel, and to the Forward Ladies Members meeting held at the Cheadle House Hotel in Stockport.
“By 2020 there will be 5 generations at work for the first time and a third of the UK workforce will be over 50 – so what does this mean for us as Leaders and for our Communications Strategies?”
Brigit explained, “it means there are new ‘issues’ to consider that will affect the way we plan and run our businesses: we need to look at key trends and adopt a flexible plan; a greater generational understanding is required; we need to be aware of changes in society and demography; technology has changed the way we operate (when do we switch off?) and what changes are required within our business environments?”
Living in a VUCA world is a fascinating but thought provoking topic but what specific personal challenges does that cause? What will be required of us in the future to be effective in a VUCA environment? What will you personally need to do differently to remain effective?
Oakridge have introduced a new sector specific Talent Management Think Tank Forum for the Health and Care industry, which will take place at the Marriott Hotel in Hale on the 25th April. VUCA is on the agenda to be discussed along with Human Performance – Championing a Safety Culture.
If you are a Senior Manager or Leader in that industry and wish to take part in the discussion, please do contact Joanne Sharp at Oakridge to book your place at the event – 0161 327 3021.
