2018 sees the 30th Anniversary of Stockport theatre company NK Theatre Arts and as part of the planning for the season a special logo has been created to mark the event.
NK started as an after-school club back in 1988 under the name Northern Kids and remains primarily a young people’s organisation. The company wanted to give a young person the chance to design a logo to be used on promotional material and merchandise for the coming year.
NK sought the help of Graphic Design students from Aquinas College who were set the open brief by teacher Vicki Ormiston. Along with dozens of different designs to choose from, first year student Charlie Ainsworth saw his logo selected by NK Staff and Trustees and also by the Marketing team from NK’s primary sponsor Midshire Business Systems.
Brian Bradley is a Trustee of NK Theatre Arts and he explained how the process began:
“2018 is going to be a very special year for NK and we thought it was a great opportunity for a specific brand and logo be created to mark this special time in the history of the Company. We have good links with Aquinas and wanted to give their students the opportunity to come up with some ideas and we were delighted with the response. Everyone loved Charlie’s designs and the logo we have chosen we believe is going to be a really strong image to appear on our promotional material for next year which will also include some really nice merchandise we are planning”
Last weekend the theatre celebrated the start of their Disney adventure with performances of The Little Mermaid.
Charlie, who lives near Romiley was delighted to see his design chosen:
“I know The Forum really well… I am really pleased that so many people liked the designs, particularly marketing professionals at Midshire so that’s fantastic for me, it’s certainly going to make me smile when I see the logo I designed be used so much next year to celebrate NK being 30!”
The brief was outlined by Aquinas teacher Vickie Ormiston, she gave the students free range to allow their creativity to shine. The logo will appear in two different styles, with a white or black background. Vickie commented on the project;
“It was a really nice open brief for our students and to know that this is actually something that is going to be used and seen by so many people is fantastic for Charlie. We hope to be able to do more of this kind of work in the future with plans to help design some posters for the shows presented by NK are in the pipeline. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students in our department to work on something that could well end up being seen all over Stockport and it’s an exciting relationship that is starting to develop”
