Christian, pictured above, was voted in by the SEA board and takes over from Wayne Jones OBE, from MAN Diesel & Turbo.
The SEA is an active partnership of senior business representatives from Stockport’s major employers.
Members of the Alliance include Adidas, Robinsons Brewery, MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Ltd, Orbit Developments, RBS, Stockport Council and Stockport College.
Working at Gorvins Solicitors since he started his training contract in 2001, Christian has long been an established and influential figurehead in Stockport.
He is a leading member in the north west business community and is a former president of the Stockport branch of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
Christian said: “It is a great honour and privilege to become Chairman of the Stockport Economic Alliance.
“I want to continue to make sure the Economic Alliance and its membership remains committed, proactive and representative of the key sectors within the business community.
“I join a great team with real passion for improving the opportunities for businesses in Stockport.
“We want to continue to be a real player in Greater Manchester in light of the recent Greater Manchester devolution deal and the on-going development of the Northern Powerhouse.”
Christian will use his first meeting to set out his vision, especially focusing on the tie-up between business and education to address the issue of the “skills gap” and development of young people.
Councillor Sue Derbyshire, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Christian for taking over as chairman of Stockport Economic Alliance.
“It is a dedicated group of local employers, seeking to improve employment and business prospects for the community as a whole.
“Wayne’s input over the recent years has had a significant impact. We are looking forward to the future of Stockport Econmic Alliance and are confident Christian will be successful.”
