To mark the charity’s 60th birthday this July, musicMagpie will support the British Heart Foundation (BHF) throughout the month by donating £1 for every consumer tech item it buys and sells, as well as offering customers the chance to donate the sum of their trade-ins to the charity.
In addition, ‘the Magpies’ will be raising funds by completing a British Heart Foundation Team 60 Challenge, where musicMagpie colleagues will be walking in a team of six to complete 60,000 steps over six days.
The BHF has been funding vital research into heart and circulatory diseases since the 60s. It works with centres of research excellence to fund research in developments and treatments for various heart and circulatory conditions such as heart disease, stroke and vascular dementia, that around 7.6 million people across the UK are living with.
A consumer study by musicMagpie found that the average UK household has up to 11 unused tech devices with a value of £598 per household. The company hopes that by encouraging people to trade in their unused items this July it can help to raise vital funds for this important charity, while facilitating a more sustainable, circular economy.
musicMagpie has chosen to partner with The BHF because heart and circulatory diseases still kill one in four in the UK, causing heartbreak on every street.
The pandemic has also meant that those with existing heart and circulatory conditions have been at a higher risk of complications from Covid-19 and the virus can also cause heart and circulatory problems in those without pre-existing cardiovascular conditions. The BHF’s work is as urgent and vital as ever and its research promises to protect the people we love.
musicMagpie CEO, Steve Oliver, commented:
“We’re thrilled to be supporting The British Heart Foundation for its 60th Birthday. It is a charity that will have touched many people’s lives and will continue to do so – we want to raise as much as we can to back its vital work that helps so many people in our community.
“It’s very easy for people to get involved – go through your cupboards, drawers and attics – find your unused tech items and trade them in with us. We’ll then donate £1 for that item and you can also donate the value we offer you too. We’ll also donate £1 for every piece of tech bought from our store throughout July.”
Paul Davies, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the British Heart Foundation said:
We’re hugely grateful to musicMagpie for their fundraising efforts for our 60th birthday. Without fundraising, the incredible medical breakthroughs made by our researchers would not be possible. Activities such as these are a fantastic way to build funds and support the BHF during the toughest time in our 60-year history.
“Corporate partners like musicMagpie are incredibly important to the BHF and thus the lives of the 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK.”
musicMagpie is committed to supporting the planet and people through partnerships such as this. The company supported NHS Charities Together, throughout the pandemic, raising £200k for the charity during one of its most critical times. More recently, musicMagpie also supported WasteAid as part of its Mount Recyclemore project, to raise awareness of e-waste and the impact it has on the planet and support their waste education work in lower income countries.
