The winners of the Merseyway photography competition, hosted by Stockport’s Merseyway Shopping Centre, have been revealed.
The overall winners have been named as Mike Petch in the professional category, Kieran Kilroy in the Amateur Over 16’s category and Declan Quinn in the Amateur Aged 16 and Under category.
Open to photographers of all ages, entrants were invited to photograph the places and people they love most in Stockport. The competition was part of Merseyway’s wider ‘Celebrating Stockport’ campaign which launched in November with the installation of a community art piece at the centre which was created by local primary school pupils.
Over 70 entries were received, with twelve finalists shortlisted by a panel of judges and put to a public vote. Nearly 4000 votes were received via the centre’s Facebook page and an on-site ballot box in a pop-up display located in the centre.
The winners of each category received £200 worth of shopping vouchers to spend at the centre and twelve voters were selected to win a print of the photo they voted to win.
Brendan Webb, Centre Manager at Merseyway said:
“The standard of entries was incredibly high and generated an unprecedented amount of interest from the local community. Each of the twelve shortlisted photographs told a unique story and celebrated Stockport in a completely different way.”
Councillor Kate Butler, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council said:
“Congratulations to all of the winners. This competition highlights once again the creative talent we have here in Stockport, and why there is so much to be proud of in our town”.
