Marple car parts supplier, Harrods Motor Components, is celebrating 50 successful years in business by organising a car show that will take place in 2020.
To celebrate its golden jubilee year, Harrods Motor Components will host a car show in 2020 on the Cheshire Derbyshire border. The event will mark the incredible milestone, with loyal customers and car enthusiasts showcasing classic, restored and modern vehicles. Registration is open now for those interested in displaying, with the venue to be announced at a later date.
Family-run Harrods Motor Components was originally founded by John Harrod in 1969, who decided to open a small motoring business with a close friend in Ashton-Under-Lyne. The shop grew steadily in the ‘70s and ‘80s, with a delivery service eventually launched to expand the reach of the local area.
In 1990, the business moved to Marple, Stockport, securing a shop on the high street where it would remain until 2018. Due to continued growth, it then moved to a bigger site at Pennine View, Marple, where it still resides today. John Harrod stepped down in 2014, handing over the reins of directorship to his son, Michael.
The Marple car parts supplier also received national attention in 2004, when iconic London department store Harrods demanded the Harrods Motor Components logo be changed, due to appearing similar to the Harrods trademark. The story generated ample attention, being covered worldwide.
Michael Harrod, Director of Harrods Motor Components said:
It’s actually staggering to be entering our 50th year in business. This is a real family business, started by my dad all those years ago. One of the reasons we have managed to stay around so long and build up such a loyal customer base is our personal and friendly approach. We want to get to know our customers on a first name basis and go out of our way to help them with whatever they require.
“Over the years, we’ve seen rapid growth in the business and we now serve customers from Manchester, Cheshire and Derbyshire. Moving to a larger premise in 2018 really cemented our position as a leading car components business, with the new site designed with our customers in mind.”
