The market operator who is set to help Stockport’s historic market grow and prosper has been named as Market Place Management by Stockport Council.
Market Place Management Limited have been chosen as the preferred operator to manage Stockport Market following an open tender process.
Market Place Management will bring a vast range of specialist market management skills, expertise and years of experience to Stockport Market, as well as a commitment to inject a new vibrancy into indoor and outdoor markets.
With exciting plans to revitalise the market in partnership with the existing businesses, bring even more great events into the area and ensure that Stockport Market has a successful and sustainable future, the appointment will help ensure the market and its offer continues to grow and develop in the years ahead.
The appointment, which is expected to be finalised over the coming weeks, comes as Stockport Council reconfirmed its commitment to helping the market grow and succeed within the towns historic Market Place and covered Market Hall, working with the existing businesses to transform it into a diverse, thriving shopping and leisure destination for visitors.
Restaurants in the area are thriving with more openings planned soon; events are proving popular and investment by businesses into the area is ever growing.

The appointment comes as £7million is currently being invested by Stockport Council into helping revitalise Stockport’s Market Place and Underbanks. The work, which is part of a £1 billion transformation taking place across the town, is building on Stockport’s strengths making it an even better place to live, work, play and connect for the future.
Councillor Kate Butler, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, added:
“Our ambition is for Stockport Market Place to become a vibrant and popular destination every day of the week.
“The markets are central to our vision and now the covered Market Hall is at 100% occupancy and with rising footfall, Market Place Management’s specialist managers will be key in making sure it continues to go from strength to strength, with a strong offer and benefitting from the council’s investment throughout the whole Market Place and Underbanks area and across the wider town centre.”
