MAN Diesel & Turbo Ltd’s (MDT-UK) two Stockport-based motorcycle racing enthusiasts, Jake Poole (rider) and Brendan McCormick (mechanic), made the long drive south to the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent last Thursday evening, 6 March 2014, in readiness for the first race meeting of the new Thundersport GB Championships.
As well as the MAN I PrimeServ logo already featuring prominently on the bike itself, the team will also be travelling up and down the country throughout the year in a specially loaned MAN I PrimeServ van.
After testing the bike thoroughly on Friday, 7 March, Jake competed against 38 other riders over the weekend, all with considerably more experience and more advanced machinery.
The positions were;
Qualifying – 9th
Race One – 7th
Race Two (Failed to start due to technical issues)
Race Three – 7th
Race Four – 4th
This was a great start for the team whose plans now are to make improvements to the bike, not least to the standard suspension, in readiness for the next event at Donington Park in Leicestershire over the weekend of the 12 and 13 of April.
All the heats in this year’s championships are being covered by Motors TV – available on Freeview Channel 240, Sky 447 and Virgin Media 545. The Brands Hatch meet will be broadcast on Thursday, 27 March at 21.00.
