Wythenshawe students have passed their GCSEs with flying colours, as the Manchester Airport-sponsored Enterprise Academy delivers record-breaking exam results
The Manchester Enterprise Academy (MEA) in Wythenshawe is thrilled to announce another set of record-breaking exam results.
· The Academy’s result in the national measure, five A*-C grades with English and Maths, is up 13% on last year at 61% – a total increase of 24% in the last two years.
· National expected progress in English is 88%, up 21% in a year. In Maths expected progress is 67%, up 11% in a year.
· Individual successes include student Nigin Ghani, who achieved 13 A* grades at GCSE, including A* grades in three different foreign languages.
The results mark a phenomenal improvement and are even more impressive in the context of recent changes made nationally to the entry rules and which qualifications could be counted.
James Eldon, Principal of the Manchester Enterprise Academy, says:
“The record-breaking year is down to the fantastic students and staff who have worked tirelessly to demonstrate the huge potential and skills of Wythenshawe children.
“We are so proud of our students who worked incredibly hard to achieve these amazing results. They are completely committed to our work regime and spent many hours preparing for their examinations – it is so heartening that their effort has paid off.
“I would like to thank all their families who have offered us such loyal support and our wonderful staff whose dedication to the students of Wythenshawe is inspiring.”
The MEA is sponsored by Manchester Airports Group (MAG) along with Wythenshawe Community Housing and Manchester City Council. Chair of Governors, Olivia Clayton, from MAG, owners of Manchester Airport, made clear that the ambition for the Academy is to consistently improve.
Olivia Clayton commented:
“The sponsors are thrilled with the superb Academic results achieved this year at MEA and we remain committed to our vision of ‘a fantastic future for all’. The results demonstrate the commitment of Wythenshawe families and local businesses, to ensuring that the next generation achieve excellent academic grades.
“However, this does not mean we will be complacent and the improvements in the fabric of the Academy show our ambition to maintain MEA’s extraordinary progress.”
With the new school year set to start next month, there are exciting times ahead for MEA with new, state of the art astro-turf pitches set to open on the site. Work is also nearing completion on the new 6th form area – with record numbers of students choosing MEA.
