Manchester Airport has appointed award winning journalist and current Trinity Mirror’s Adam Jupp into the newly-created role of Head of External Affairs where he will oversee the work of the press office, public affairs and community teams at the airport.
Jupp, (left) who is well known and respected among the North West’s business fraternity, joins in November from the Manchester Evening News, where he is currently associate editor, overseeing the business and what’s on content of the Manchester Evening News in print and online and Greater Manchester Business Week.
Adam, who is a former Press Gazette trainee journalist of the year, North East Journalist of the Year, Investigative Reporter of the Year, North West Business Writer of the Year and winner of the Kate Adie Prize for Initiative in Journalism, will sit on the airport’s Senior Leadership Team and report to Ken O’Toole, Managing Director of Manchester Airport.
Ken O’Toole said:
“Adam will bring with him an extensive knowledge of our business and the external issues and audiences that we engage with on a daily basis.
“As the airport continues to go from strength-to-strength, it is more important than ever that we are able to communicate in the most effective means possible our thinking and interact with the stakeholders who have a vested interest in what we do.”
Adam Jupp said:
“I am delighted to be joining Manchester Airport at such an exciting time in its evolution. There are few, if any, more important businesses to the economic health of the region and the North of England as a whole.
“It sits at the heart of the biggest issues affecting the North West, ranging from devolution and progress towards creating a Northern Powerhouse to delivering the road, rail and aviation infrastructure needed to unlock its true potential.
“Most importantly, as the airport prospers, every person living in Greater Manchester benefits due to the nature of its ownership and it will be great to be a part of that.
“It has been a privilege to work for some of the nation’s most respected news brands, including my home-town paper and, most recently, the MEN, which is now the most read regional title in the UK.
“I have loved my time as a frontline journalist and have worked with some great people over the years but am extremely excited about this new challenge.”
Prior to arriving in the North West, Adam was chief reporter at NCJ Media in his native north east, working across the Newcastle Chronicle, Journal and Sunday Sun where he led a series of key campaigns for the newspapers, including one which called for the scrapping of Air Passenger Duty, in partnership with Newcastle Airport.
Manchester Airport is now the UK’s third busiest airport and has recently announced a £1bn transformation programme.
It is also behind the £800m Airport City project, which will create more than 10,000 jobs by attracting global firms to new business and logistics space being created next to the airport’s main terminals.
