Stockport Council has launched its free email alert service where people can sign up and choose the news or service updates that they want to hear about.
There’s a wide range of information to choose from whether it’s a single topic, such as ‘bin collection updates,’ or other subjects such as ‘library events,’ ‘Council Tax news,’ ‘roadworks’ or ‘cold weather alerts’.
Over 4,000 residents and businesses have already signed up, by entering their email address via the Council website, and are now receiving instant email alerts when the items they’ve subscribed to get updated. It’s easy to manage the email alerts including changing their frequency or adding and deleting topics at any point by logging in with your email address.
Councillor Mark Weldon, Deputy Leader of Stockport Council and Executive Member for Corporate, Customer and Community Services, said:
“We get bombarded with information from all sorts of sources, so this free email alert service is a great way of filtering out the information that is valuable to residents.
“We want to make sure that where things affect people, they are the first to know, so they can make timely decisions. People should no longer have to keep checking the website or phoning the Council to get an update, as we’ll let them know as soon as we do, with an email straight to their inbox.”
People can do more than they think online so visit www.stockport.gov.uk. Should people like some help to get started online then there’s also free internet access and PCs at local libraries and free online taster sessions available, run by trained library staff. People can drop into their local library to find out more.
