The managing partner of Stockport law firm Gorvins shall be pedalling through tough African terrain this November, joined by other women in business, to raise funds for the Genesis Research Trust.
Lorraine Lockie shall be cycling across Tanzania, covering up to 100km per day to raise at least £5,000 for the charity, which funds research into science for the health of women and babies.
Lorraine said:
“This is a huge personal challenge for me, but it’s also going to be one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. The Genesis Research Trust, founded by Professor Robert Winston, raises money for the largest UK based collection of scientists and clinicians researching why, despite great medical advances, one in four pregnancies still end in miscarriage; one in eight babies are born premature and one in175 babies are stillborn, a cause of profound grief and devastation for mothers and their families.”
Commenting on Gorvins’ charitable events Professor Robert Winston, Chairman for Genesis Research Trust said:
“Every penny raised is well earned by Lorraine and these remarkable women, and could help eradicate tragic medical issues affecting so many women and babies.”
Lorraine’s Tanzania challenge forms part of Gorvins’ CSR programme. Lorraine added:
“As a firm we’ve always given generously to local and national good causes, but this year we want to take our efforts up a notch and start a fundraising programme that gets everyone involved.
“We shall continue to support local causes and work with charities in Stockport, such as the Weekend Day Centre; however we wanted also to give our team the chance to raise money for a cause they are really passionate about and give them the opportunity to widen the scope of our CSR programme.
“I’m training hard for the Tanzania trip and hope all my efforts inspire people to give generously.”
