Local elections in Stockport on 7th May 2026 have resulted in the Liberal Democrats winning a majority on Stockport Council after gaining an additional three seats from Labour.
With a third of councillors up for election, the three gains from Labour for the Liberal Democrats in the Davenport and Cale Green, Marple South and High Lane, and Offerton wards means the party now holds 33 of the 63 seats on the council, marking the first time any party has held a majority of councillors since 2011.
Labour held just two of the seven seats it was defending at this election, but remains the second largest group on the Council with 14 councillors. The Green Party made one gain in the Reddish North ward, and has now has four councillors in total.
Meanwhile, Reform UK picked up its first two representatives on Stockport Council, winning two seats from Labour in the Manor Ward and in Brinnington & Stockport Central, where there was a margin of just 59 votes, the closest result in the borough.
