LifeLEISURE’s Houldsworth Village gym has been voted one of the Strongest in a Top Industry Award. The gym in Reddish has just celebrated being national finalists for the ‘Strength Training Gym of the Year’ award at the glittering National Fitness Awards, held at The Athena in Leicester.
The evening was hosted by boxing world champion and local Manchester lad Ricky Hatton and top TV presenter and fitness expert Caroline Pearce.
The much coveted awards which are ‘the Oscars’ of the fitness world recognise excellence and achievement in gyms and leisure centres throughout the UK.
Life Leisure was acknowledged for its unique collaboration with British Weight Lifting in bringing to the North West ‘a one of a kind’ Weight Lifting Academy as well as their approach to integrating disability sport into a mainstream facility, providing Arnies Power Lifting Club with a new home. The partnership shaped a massive redevelopment and extension at Houldsworth Village earlier this year, helping the centre and the sport go from strength to strength in just a few months. It’s a real asset for both the area and the local community, which obviously impressed the judging panel.
Chris Scott, General Manager at Life Leisure Houldsworth Village (with the team above) said:
“We are thrilled to have been selected as finalists; it really puts Stockport on the map in terms of the sport and leisure facilities we are able to offer. Houldsworth Village is the home of the Weight Lifting Academy, but there are also plenty of other sporting and fitness activities on offer. For anyone looking to try out a new sport, the facilities and training are superb, everyone is welcome.”
