Stage 2 of the Manchester Weight Lifting Series take splace this Sunday at Life Leisure’s Houldsworth Village Gym in Reddish, where competitors will take part in the ‘Clean & Jerk’, lifting from the ground to the shoulders in a single movement (the Clean) before powering it from the shoulders up above their head in one movement with no arm press (the Jerk).
Left – taking part!
The first part of the competition in this series held in May was the explosive ‘Snatch’ and proved to be a huge success, with more athletes than ever taking part and attracting interest from beyond the region more people are enjoying the experience of both taking up the sport and competing in weight lifting.
Both individuals and teams (3 people) can take part in the competitions; all competitors will have three lift attempts which contribute to the total weight lifted.
Andreas Michaelas, British Weight Lifting Regional Development Officer based at Houldsworth Village said,
“We are really happy about the way the sport has taken off here at Life Leisure. British Weight Lifting formed a unique collaboration with Life Leisure when they set up the Academy at Houldsworth. BWL are seriously impressed with how many people are taking up the sport which is exactly what we hoped.”
He continued,
“Spectators are very welcome to come along on Sunday, they will be sure to see some exciting sport and closely contested categories. It might even whet their appetites to try the sport!”
The Manchester Weight Lifting Series is designed for anyone and everyone, from beginners through to advanced lifters, with six categories – male beginner, intermediate and advanced and female beginner, intermediate and advanced.
Chris Scott, General Manager at Life Leisure Houldsworth Village commented,
“We are attracting elite athletes to the performance zone as well as complete beginners, we support everyone who wants to take part. The equipment and the facilities are excellent and we know that we are getting more competitors each time as word gets out that this is the place to be! We’re really proud of the facilities here and I intend to be there to watch all the action!”
