A team of members and employees from Life Leisure in Stockport is embarking on a gruelling 474 mile charity cycle in just six days to fundraise for Sefton Village Orphanage in the Philippines.
The LifeLEISURE team of Andrew Cooper, David Lornie, Katie Evans, Ashley Colclough and Tom Shirley will be joined by four members a support crew of Adelle Izzard and Mandy Waller, will be setting off on 14th September, cycling their way from Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower over six days visiting Coventry, Marlow, Brighton and Newhaven for the ferry crossing, onto Gourney-En-Bray and finally reaching Paris on the 20th September.
Training and fundraising is already in full swing; preparations began in March with gym and fitness exercise as well as lots of cycling and the team have held charity cycles around the local area, with a percentage of the money raised going to local charities including a three day cycle Marks & Spencer at Handforth Dean, where they raised almost one thousand pounds.
David Lornie, Senior Health & Fitness Coach said,
“We must thank M&S for allowing us to set up outside the store, we covered a lot of miles without moving anywhere! The customers were fantastic, they were really interested in what we are doing and we loved chatting to them. So a big thank you must go to everyone for their generous donations for St Ann’s Hospice and Sefton Village Orphanage.”
Sefton Village Orphanage is a charity close to the hearts of the team at Life Leisure, one which they have supported for a number of years. The orphanage cares for abandoned and neglected children with a range of disabilities and illnesses in their local community. The orphanage is a safe environment for the children ranging from 2 months to 17 years old, it provides love, food, education and medical help to all the children they care for.
Laura Mylotte, Marketing and Communications Manager at Life Leisure, commented on the upcoming event saying,
“We want to thank everyone who is helping to make this great event take place, it’s a really big challenge and all the team at Life Leisure are thrilled to be supporting such wonderful charities. We have set ourselves a big target of £10,000 and we hope the local Stockport community will continue to donate just as much as they can, so please look out for the guys on their bikes!”
