The awards ceremony, held on 4th December, was hosted by fitness entrepreneur and TV personality Katie Bulmer – Cooke and ex British (and Stockport Metro) swimmer and Olympic medallist and commentator Steve Parry.
The awards recognise excellence, innovation and achievement in gyms and are open to gyms all over the country. Life Leisure was shortlisted in three categories.
Life Leisure’s Avondale ‘Health Hub’ was Runner Up in the Best Rehab facility of the year category and Houldsworth Village was runner up in the Best Leisure Trust facility category.
Better known locally as ‘the gym for people who don’t go to the gym’, Avondale’s ‘Health Hub’ is dedicated to rehabilitation and enabling members of the local community to take part in physical activity to improve their health and wellbeing.
The gym at Houldsworth Village has had another successful year with new facilities, improved disability access and an innovative collaboration with British Weight Lifting and these have been recognised with the award.
Laura Mylotte, marketing and communications manager at Life Leisure commented, “We are very proud of the fantastic achievements at both locations where the teams are encouraging local people to have a healthy and active lifestyle.
“Competition for the National Fitness Awards is really strong so we were delighted to be shortlisted in three categories. Obviously it would have been the fantastic to win the awards but to walk away with two Runners Up awards bears testament to the dedication and hard work of our teams and the huge amount of community engagement created by our centres.”
