Leading business people took to the track with Team GB at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester recently, thanks to Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Banking team who invited 16 customers for an introductory session around the velodrome track.

The group received training tips from Team GB’s coaching staff and heard about the track skills and fitness levels required to compete on an international level.
Following some basic tuition and having built up enough confidence to tackle the 42.5 degree banking, the group competed in a friendly race to see who could complete the fastest lap. The invited guests then had the opportunity to enjoy a light lunch and refreshments in a private concourse area while watching members of the gold medal winning Team GB pursuit team undergo a training session.
Richard Moor, Partner at Knight Frank LLP in Manchester, was one of the attendees at the event and is already keen to ride the 250 metres track again who said:
“It’s something I definitely want to have another go at. The cycling was great and there was a really nice relaxed atmosphere to the event, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was also a bonus and very inspiring to watch Team GB sprint team training afterwards.”
The National Cycling Centre, which opened in 1994, was Britain’s first indoor Olympic standard cycling track and is now one of the busiest tracks in the world. The event was arranged by Vince Bennett, relationship manager at Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Blackburn.
Ian Hardman, head of Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Preston said:
“No matter what industry you’re in, it’s always beneficial to take some time out and a shared experience like this is a great way to break down barriers. This event, which forms part of our Business Week celebrations, was an ideal opportunity for guests to try something new in a magnificent setting, network and feel inspired by watching Team GB cyclists in action.”
