Stockport’s ‘Kids Allowed’ brand new purpose built nursery was opened by Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills and local MP Andrew Stunell last week to celebrate new childcare facilities for the area as well as more jobs and apprenticeships.
The centre will hire 18 employees to start
rising to 60, 4 of which will be apprentices.
Commenting, Andrew said –
“I’m delighted that Kids Allowed has taken
up my challenge to see Stockport
companies and organisations offer a
hundred apprenticeships in the next
hundred days.”
“The company does an excellent job delivering childcare, and it was fun meeting some of the young people who are already benefiting from their policy of providing ‘on the job’ vocational training.”
Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for BIS, commented –
“I am delighted to back Andrew Stunell’s challenge to Stockport businesses to offer a hundred new apprenticeships in a hundred days to local young people. The Government has focused on vocational training to plug the skills gaps nationally, and we want to see the number of places doubled this year. It is good to see Stockport making such a good start.”
A total of 55 apprentices will be taken on by local employers/providers so far. The full list is: ALDI who have pledged 14, Aquinas College 2, Davis Blank Furniss 1, Dodd Group 2, Kids Allowed 8, Man Diesel 1, Manchester Digital 10, Pure Innovations 1, Railforce 2, Stockport Council 11, Stockport Homes 1, Tangerine 1, and Werneth School 1.
Jennie Johnson, CEO of Kids Allowed, commented –
“It was fantastic to have the support of Sir Andrew Stunell and Dr Vince Cable to do the official opening of our new Kids Allowed childcare Centre in Stockport.”
“We are also delighted to support the 100 apprenticeships in 100 days initiative by creating 8 apprenticeship roles in our Stockport based Centres this year.”
It will have places for 190 children – 156 nursery places, and 34 wrap around care – including before and after school clubs. It will open officially to the public on 2nd September.
Kids Allowed also has an Apprenticeship Academy in Knutsford. They will be taking on 20 apprentices over the next 100 days, 4 days of the week the apprentice will be based in the centres receiving on the job mentoring and 1 day a fortnight they will receive class room based training at the Apprenticeship academy.
