The annual celebration of business excellence within the Borough of Stockport was hosted in front of more than 340 of Stockport’s leading businessmen and women at the Hallmark Hotel. The event was also used to raise money for local charity; The Together Trust.
Competition for the category came from finalists Resin Surfaces Ltd, and TEL Engineering Ltd, both from Hazel Grove. The winning business was required to demonstrate its strategy in developing and generating international trading capability.
Andrew Baggott, managing director of Clarke Nicklin Chartered Accountants who sponsor and organise the Stockport Business Awards commented,
“After the success of the previous two years the Stockport business community has really embraced the awards.” Baggott went on to say, “The event was really exciting and with a record number of entries we knew we had a shortlist to be proud of.”
HSS CEO and Managing Director, Tony Hughes, remarked,
“In line with my advisory role at the All Party Parliamentary Group [APPG] for the UK Trade & Investment [UKTI], it’s nice to be recognised and acknowledged for our endeavours in export and sees us setting a good example to our local community”.
Tony went on to explain,
“We’re proud of our Stockport home, the Company has its roots here, and the Hughes family has lived and worked here for four generations”.
In a pleasant twist it turned out that the award Hughes Safety Showers scooped was sponsored by a company, MAN Diesel, with Hughes family history.
“My grandfather worked for the former MAN company, Mirrlees, Bickerton & Day, during the Great War of 1914-18 as a Works Foreman. His footsteps were followed up later by my own father who served his apprenticeship there”, Tony explained.
