The Hughes/Speedworks Motorsport combo are once again joining the Dunlop 24H Series grid, this time competing in a 12 hour endurance race at the Zandvoort Circuit in Holland on the 30-31st May.
The Stockport based outfit has committed to the third event of the five race calendar and will be hoping to bounce back from the ‘disappointment’ of their drive-shaft failure in Italy, where the team missed out on a podium result.
They will once again be piloting the Ginetta G50 that brought the team class success at the Dubai 24H back in January (pictured left).
An unchanged driver line-up has been announced from their recent appearance in Italy, once again ex-British Touring Car driver, and Hughes Safety Showers boss, Tony Hughes will drive alongside former British GT GT4 Class Champion, and Speedworks Principal, Christian Dick.
The pair will once again be joined by ‘breadman’ Ross Warburton, Director of the famous Warburtons Bread. Dubai class winner, teammate Will Scully, looked doubtful to join the trio but hopes to rejoin the team in the future.
“We’re obviously disappointed about the result in Italy but we won’t be dwelling on it one bit” commented Hughes, “Speedworks will once again put a great car together for us and we’ll do our best to do the team justice. They deserve something after the effort they put in last time out. Hopefully we can repay them for their efforts”.
Zandvoort, a seaside circuit set in the dunes on the edge of the North Sea, hosted Formula 1 Grands Prix up until 1985 and has recently played host to German Touring Car [DTM] races and the Masters of Formula 3 event that was won by none other than Formula 1 maestro David Coulthard.
Provisional entry for the 12H Zandvoort is already pushing up to 50 cars with registration for the Dutch enduro still open until the 30th April. It’s a proper global affair too with entries included from Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Czech Republic and even Australia. The top class will again be dominated by the entry of Mercedes SLS AMGs and Porsche 997s, whilst a great mix of manufacturers including SEAT, BMW, Renault, Peugeot, Audi and even Panoz currently make up the entry.
