After being announced as a finalist last month, Foundations Stockport’s furniture recycling project has won the Frontline Stars Team award at the 2020 Housing Quality Network (HQN) Awards.
The Furniture Recycling team took home the trophy for their dedication and hard work to keep a vital service in Stockport running by providing furniture to those in need during an uncertain time.
The HQN Frontline Star Awards recognised those frontline workers, volunteers, residents, and members of the housing community who have gone the extra mile during the Covid-19 crisis and made a tangible difference to the lives of others. Of the Foundations Stockport team, judges commented:
This was the entry that stood out for me and stuck in my mind.
“This is a great initiative that many others could have easily stopped doing during lockdown, but they carried it on and were a vital lifeline to people”
The furniture recycling team is run by Foundations Stockport, a charitable arm of Stockport Homes, and has worked with South Manchester-based Great Places Housing during the crisis to support key workers who have had to move into temporary accommodation to protect other members of their household who may be at greater risk from the virus.
Roger Phillips, Chair of the Foundation Stockport Board, said:
I am absolutely over the moon that the Furniture Recycling project has won, they have carried on delivering a vital service, meaning vulnerable tenants were still able to start new tenancies during an uncertain time. The whole team should be very proud of themselves.”
