Stockport businesses and residents are being encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees to help raise money for local hospice charity, St Ann’s Hospice.
The deadline for signing up to have a tree collected is Sunday 7th January. Collections will take place between Thursday 11th and Sunday 14th January 2024, run by volunteers from national charity, JustHelping, and St Ann’s. All postcode areas in Manchester, Stockport, Trafford and Salford are eligible to get their Christmas tree collected, and other local charities benefiting from the campaign include South Manchester children’s hospice, Francis House.
The collections are a great way to dispose of Christmas trees in a stress-free and sustainable way. They protect the environment by having your tree recycled, with the chippings being used for pathways and flowerbeds in local parks including Wythenshawe Park.
The Christmas tree recycling campaign has now been running for ten years, and had its most successful year in January 2023, with 5,270 Christmas trees across Stockport, Trafford, Salford and Manchester, raising over £57,000 for St Ann’s Hospice.
Lucy Leeming, Fundraising Manager of St Ann’s Hospice, said:
“We are so excited for the tree collection this year, after the success of last year’s we can’t wait to see how this year’s compares.
“We’re hugely thankful to JustHelping, all of the volunteers who help with the collections, and everyone who makes a donation. We encourage everyone that lives in the eligible postcodes to sign up now!”
Tom Laverty, Development Manager at JustHelping, says:
“JustHelping are delighted to be supporting St Ann’s Hospice at such an important chapter of their incredible history.
“The campaign continues to offer an easy and convenient way for people to support this amazing charity whose work is deeply ingrained within our wider community.
