We are Stockport is all about celebrating Stockport, showcasing all that is great and unique about our place and people, as well as unearthing the borough’s hidden treasures.
Over the past few weeks We are Stockport has been filming some fabulous stories which reflect the true spirit of Stockport people. The most recent profiles Give2Gain, a Timebank run by Lynn Sbaih, and goes behind the scenes to reveal how Give2Gain makes a difference by linking people together and helping those who otherwise may feel isolated and undervalued.
Social issues such as loneliness, elderly isolation, troubled families, youth anti-social behaviour, debts and disputes affect areas up and down the country….and it’s often grass roots activity that can make the difference and improvements to neighbourhoods. Stockport is a place rich in caring communities that work together to make Stockport a great place to live.
Olive Café in Edgeley is one such example. Inspired and led by local business woman Gerry Sullivan, Olive is a place that puts words into action. Describing themselves as a cafe where it’s not just about the coffee, Olive is supported by community services such as the police and debt action groups to help provide a retreat and advice point, as well as a great meeting place.
