Grassroots Recruitment, based in Stockport, has announced their Charity of the Year 2018 following on from the successful year of fundraising in 2017.
The team’s chosen organisation for 2018 is The Wellspring: Charity for Homeless.
Last year, Grassroots raised nearly £2,360 for a range of local organisations close to their hearts including Francis House, JDRF, Cash for Kids and CC Gymnastics. This year they hope to double that.
However, the Stockport firm aren’t stopping there. Introducing a new Employee Volunteer Scheme for 2018, each member of staff has up to 16 hours a year paid time off to volunteer at to The Wellspring charity, as well as carrying out ongoing fundraising projects to support the centre.
Jonathan Billings, the CEO of The Wellspring said:
“We are delighted that Grassroots Recruitment have chosen to adopt The Wellspring as their Charity of the Year for 2018. We are always proud to be supported by local businesses in Stockport.
“Over the next 12 months we look forward to Grassroots volunteering at the centre and supporting the charity in a number of different ways. This will help The Wellspring support more vulnerable people, as well as helping to reduce homelessness and rough sleeping on the streets of Stockport.”
The charity provides integral resources for homeless and disadvantaged people across the borough, from housing referrals to health services. With a devoted team, the centre is open 365 days of the year, for anyone in need over the age of 18 to visit and receive food, clothes and much-needed company. The volunteers spend time with visitors and create a plan of action to improve their situation, this could be either a long-term or a short-term goal.
To kick off the year, the Grassroots team will be doing a ‘Kitchen Takeover’ day to help prepare, cook and serve the food that the centre provides daily, as well as simply taking some time to spend with its patrons. The recruitment specialists will also hold career advice workshops to support their journey back to work, including interview preparation and confidence building.
To raise money for the organisation, the team will be participating in major fundraising events throughout the year such as; the Great Manchester 10K Run, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, the Rucksack Project and regular foodbank collections, along with many more to raise the profile of the local charity.
Grassroots Operations Director, Caroline Patten said:
“Corporate Social Responsibility is an integral part of our company’s values. We may be a small team here at Grassroots, but it only takes a little contribution to make a difference to the lives of others.
“The Wellspring receives no funding from government or lottery grants and is completely dependent on donations. Jonathan and the team are doing fantastic things to help those in need become independent of their services and we are committed to help them achieve that goal in whatever way we can.”
