The multi-story car park, planned as an integral part of the redevelopment plans for Stockport’s Grand Central, is a step nearer this week.
Canada Life, providers of insurance and wealth management, and construction company Muse Developments have agreed a way forward for funding so that work can begin on the 1,000 space facility.

The second phase regeneration of Grand Central, the area alongside Stockport Rail Station, will also include offices and a hotel. and Muse believe that the car park development will signal a start to the full development programme.
Muse, based in Salford, were appointed to develop the car park on land leased by Stockport Council from Network Rail.
Wes Erlam, a senior development surveyor at Muse, said:
“The agreement with Canada Life is a fantastic achievement for the scheme and for Stockport. The delivery of the car park has been a long held ambition of the council and Network Rail, and we are delighted be playing a major part in making this a reality. We now look forward to managing the construction of the building, which will be open and trading by March 2014.”
Michael White, property investment director at Canada Life Investments, said:
“We hope this will be a catalyst for future development phases of the Grand Central regeneration project.”
