Employees from Gorvins Solicitors today presented £1000 to The Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care at the half way stage of a 12 month relationship with the charity.
Teams from across the Stockport law firm have organised a variety of fundraising events and activities to reach the total to date. Dress down Friday’s and an initiative titled ‘The Great Gorvins Bake Off’ have generated opportunities to give to The Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care in South Reddish, which provides an informal, social environment for those living with dementia and support for their carers.
Paul Longmire, Gorvins Marketing Manager and Chair of the Charity Committee, said:
“The Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care was a natural choice for support, based locally and dealing with the effects of a widespread and increasingly common condition.
“We are six months into our relationship with the team at The Weekend Day Centre and it’s great to be able to make a contribution to their fantastic work”.

Claire Carr, fundraising manager from the charity said that Gorvins support was invaluable:
“To know that others are spending time raising money for you is much appreciated. The £1000 to date will be used to help more people living with Dementia and their carers enjoy some respite from their daily lives. We are currently at full capacity which is great but we want to be able to expand the service even more, which will come from donations like this.”
The Weekend Day Centre plugs a critical gap when other support services are not available for both people with dementia and, uniquely, their carers who can feel very isolated in their role.
There are a wide variety of activities on offer including quizzes, tea dances and trips out as well as quiet areas around the Centre for those who just want peace and quiet.
Gorvins is a major supporter of the Dementia Friends scheme from The Alzheimer’s Society. Associate solicitor Tasoula Crosby has trained as a Dementia Friend Champion and has put Gorvins’ 100+-strong team through specialist workshops to better understand the challenges facing clients living with the condition.
The firm is also holding a Carer’s Week in October where charities, local support groups and authorities will be on hand to give guidance, support and advice to carers of the elderly, people with disabilities and those living with Dementia.
