Greater Manchester Police is now reaching more people than ever before with its updates posted on social network site Facebook.
During the first two weeks in December more than 750,000 people were reached on a weekly basis which increased to almost a million last week.
The Force already has more than 115,000 followers on Twitter and has made extensive use of social networks including YouTube, Flickr and Pinterest.
It is being linked to a number of high profile operations including the Christmas Operation Advent and the online video advent calendar featuring crime prevention tips.
Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “We regularly get positive feedback about our updates using social media. The updates make it easier for people to find out what is happening in their area and also what we are doing to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.
“The advent calendar has certainly helped to get people into the festive spirit but also gives them some valuable advice on how to stay safe.”
