Entires open for the 3rd Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce competition for contemporary artists with winners displayed at a pop-up exhibition taking place in Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery.
Returning for a third year, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is once again holding a competition for contemporary artists.
Joy Sewart, Head of Skills Development at Greater Manchester Chamber, said:
Our aim is to find and build the careers of artists and help develop artistic talent across the region. There is a wealth of talent and our job at the Chamber is to provide a platform to showcase and celebrate the work of our contemporary visual artists.”
The 2017 Arts Prize attracted approximately 220 entries from around 90 artists.
Last year’s winner, 24-year-old Helen Davies from Oldham, said
To win left me completely over the moon.”
Work by Helen and the runners-up was displayed in a Summer Exhibition at the Chamber’s offices in Elliot House in Manchester city centre.
This year, the artwork will be displayed at a pop-up exhibition taking place in Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery. The overall winner and three runners-up will be presented with awards at the Chamber’s Annual Business Dinner on 17 May at Victoria Warehouse.
The 2018 arts prize is now open for entries. Artists can submit work via the website
Peter Ashworth, Head of Culture and Leisure at Stockport Council, said:
I’m delighted that our Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery will be hosting this year’s Greater Manchester Arts Prize’s exhibition, and I’m looking forward to see the work of the region’s contemporary visual artists. I’d also encourage local Stockport artists to submit an entry and have the chance to have their artwork displayed in their own hometown.”
