A new class designed specifically to help people who have suffered a fall or who don’t feel steady on their feet has been launched by two Marketing Stockport members Life Leisure in partnership with Stockport Council. The ‘Stay Steady’ class runs every Monday and Friday from 10.30am -12noon at Birch Court in Marple.
Participants can expect to improve their balance, stability, mobility, strength and flexibility, making them more confident and steady on their feet. Instructor Anthony Foster, a fully qualified Postural Stability Instructor, will guide the participants through a very gentle exercise class which is followed by refreshments and an opportunity for a chat.
Anthony says, “As people get older they often lose strength in their muscles and joints which can lead to concerns about falling. With support much can be done to help you stay on your feet and these new specialist classes are a great place to start. We have found that participants all support each other through the set of gentle exercises helping them on the road to building their confidence again. The classes are also a great way to meet up with other people as well as helping people to maintain their independence.”
The class is free to anybody who has fallen, is unsteady on their feet or maybe at risk of a fall. Referrals to the class should be made with a medical practitioner.
