Casual dining chain, German Doner Kebab, is to open a new restaurant in Stockport town centre as part of expansion plans that will create 1800 jobs nationwide by the end of 2021.
The Glasgow-based chain intends to almost double its 52 outlets across the UK with 47 restaurant openings by the end of 2021, including a site opposite the Peel Centre in Stockport town centre. The chain has seen a 51% boost in its takeaway and delivery sales during lockdown that have supported the expansion.
Imran Sayeed, chief executive officer of German Doner Kebab, said:
We have been extremely agile during the pandemic and there continues to be a huge demand for our game-changing kebabs.
“It is therefore very exciting to be announcing these latest growth plans for the next 12 months as we build on the great momentum we delivered during 2020.
“Our plans will almost double our portfolio and create in the region of 1,800 jobs as we continue to disrupt the market space and maintain our mission of building the fast-casual brand of the future.”
As well as in Stockport, German Doner Kebab will also be opening restaurants in Manchester and Blackburn in the North West. The new restaurant openings are being led by former Nando’s executive, Rich Collie, and will also see the brand grow internationally. Imran Sayeed added:
The global demand reflects our position as one of the world’s most exciting fast-casual brands.
“We have developed strong franchise relationships in key global locations and we are now working closely with our partners to take forward development plans and bring the German Doner Kebab experience to new regions.”
An opening date has yet to be confirmed, but the new restaurant will create a number of new hospitality jobs in Stockport before the end of 2021.
