Visitors to Merseyway Summer Festival will be able to park for free in Stockport town centre Council-owned pay and display car parks and on-street bays from 11am on Saturday 31 August and all day on Sunday 1 September.
The four-day event, which runs from Thursday 29 August – Sunday 1 September, will have plenty of fun on offer for all the family.
Pop-up markets, food and drink stalls from around the world and art demonstrations will be going on throughout the weekend.
Thursday and Friday will see health and beauty demonstrations and a fairground, with Saturday and Sunday offering live music, fashion shows and street entertainment.
On the Saturday, visitors are being asked to get involved by ‘putting their hats on’ for a paper hat wearing world record attempt in Merseyway Shopping Centre.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“It’s great to see local businesses and retailers working together to put on such a fantastic event, which will showcase the very best of Stockport. We want to support the event and attract even more people into the town centre by providing free parking to visitors, so I would encourage as many people as possible to take advantage of it.”
Brendan Webb, Centre Manager at Merseyway, added:
“We’re hoping everyone will join us for the Merseyway Summer Festival and enjoy the wealth of fun activities we have to offer. We really are bringing Stockport together with this event and the free parking from 11am on Saturday morning and all day Sunday will bring in people who may not have visited for a while. We’re keen for people to arrive in plenty of time for our 1 o’clock world record attempt at the most people wearing paper hats in one place.”
