The Forum Theatre may be dark right now, but it is about to go Green after securing funding to install LED lighting throughout the entire premises.
Improvements will see over 150 fittings and lamps replaced throughout the three story venue including over 50 new house lights in the auditorium itself. The finance for the work has been acquired through an award of a Resource Efficiency Grant from Greater Manchester Business Support Limited, together with a donation from the Co-Op Community Fund who provided funding on behalf of their members who had selected NK Theatre Arts as a Charity they wished to support.
The project will cost a total of approximately £6,000 with installation set to begin early next year.
Stuart Dean the Chair of NK Theatre Arts said:
“We are delighted to be able to install LED lighting throughout The Forum Theatre. We would like to thank GM Business Growth for the grant funding and of course the Co-Op Foundation whose members have made this project a reality. As visitor numbers to The Forum Theatre continued to grow prior to the pandemic, so the obvious need for lighting provision increases with it. We are delighted therefore to be able to reduce our carbon footprint in this way as well as providing energy cost savings which will be vital to our organisation.
“When we are allowed to welcome patrons back to The Forum for theatre events, we are sure they will be able to see the difference, as will all of the children and young people who attend Performing Arts sessions each week. We are also delighted to be supporting the Bredbury and Romiley Community Association as part of this scheme who will also see all of their lighting changed which is fantastic news for all of the local people who attend events at the centre.”
The Forum Theatre has been closed to the general public since March with the remainder of the 2020 schedule postponed due to restrictions on live events as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. There are plans to slowly re-open events at the theatre in a socially distanced way once government restrictions for theatres are lifted.
