Stockport Council and Foodie Friday have made a joint decision to cancel Foodie Friday on Friday 26th May.
Their statement read: ‘Out of respect for the victims of Monday evening’s tragic events at the Manchester Arena, Seven Miles Out and Stockport Council have decided to cancel this Friday’s Foodie Friday event.’
Businesses in the Market Place will still be open and the organisers wanted to take this opportunity to make an additional statement.
“As organisers of such a popular outdoor event, we take the responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of our visitors incredibly seriously. After discussing this, along with other issues with Stockport Council, we decided that the best approach would be to cancel this month’s event.
“While we appreciate that many people feel strongly about proceeding with the event as normal, in order to show solidarity in the face of adversity, we cannot stress how important it is ensure the safety of the general public, especially with the national threat level raised to critical.
“So, in conclusion, we do believe that cancelling this Friday’s event is the right decision in the current climate and we will be taking steps to make sure we deliver a safe and secure event on Friday 30th June.”
We would appreciate if you could share this news with anyone you know who was planning to attend the event on Friday, in order to make them aware of the cancellation. Please note, the bars and restaurants around the Market Place, including Seven Miles Out, will still be open as usual on Friday.
In conclusion:
“Finally, our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic event. It’s hard to put into words the sadness we all feel about what has happened and we hope you are able to respect our decision in this difficult time.”
