As more parents continue to work after having a child, childminding is becoming an increasingly important and a highly rewarding career.
It also allows for flexibility in your own working life where you have the flexibility and opportunity to fit work around your own family’s needs.
If you are interested in a career with children, Stockport Council is holding an information session for people thinking of becoming Registered Childminders on Tuesday 5 September 2017 at 6.30pm in Fred Perry House.
The session will cover the Ofsted regulations for Registered Childminders, the process for training and registration, costs involved and support available, along with a chance to ask questions. There will also be an opportunity to enrol on a 10 week evening course which will then enable participants to go forward to Ofsted registration. 96% Childminders in Stockport are now graded Good or Outstanding.
With the 30 hours funded childcare starting in September 2017, this is potentially a great business opportunity for new Childminders as there is likely to be a high demand. Many Childminders are now developing partnerships with their local nurseries and schools, so that the funded hours can be shared between them for the benefit of everyone.
There is lots of free support available from the Council and local Childminder organisations, to help new Childminders through the registration process and when they start work and the government is also offering a £500 start-up grant to help all newly qualified Childminders with the costs of setting up their business.
Councillor Colin Foster, Cabinet Member for Children and Family Services at Stockport Council, said:
“This is an interesting time for potential new Childminders with new business opportunities and new ways of partnership working and a realistic rate of pay, making it a viable career opportunity. The event in September will give useful advice and guidance to those who want to find out more”
