As the A6 Manchester Airport Relief Road nears completion, Stockport Council are giving everyone the opportunity to walk, cycle or run the route before it opens to traffic.
On Sunday 7th October, a day of community sporting activities for all the family will be taking place on the new road, giving you a chance to come along and join in the fun, as well as get an up-close look at the work that’s been taking place.
Whether you like to run, walk or cycle there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
The day will kick off at 10am with a 5km chip timed run along part of the road, before a host of cycling, walking and athletics events take place on the road between 11am and 3pm.
Free Events taking place on the new A6 Manchester Airport Relief Road will include:
- 5km run
- “Let’s Ride” with British Cycling
- Stockport Wheelchair Racing Club providing some taster sessions
- Cycle skills training and information on local opportunities
- Fun games and athletics for all ages
- A chance to walk or cycle along parts of the new road
Registration in advance please – HERE for the 5km run
Councillor Alex Ganotis, Leader of Stockport Council said:
“It is great to be able to celebrate the imminent opening of the A6 Manchester Airport Relief Road. We have really appreciated all of the help, patience and support given by residents during the construction work – we know it has been hard at times. As a way of saying thank you we want to give residents the chance to come down and see the new road up close for themselves – something that won’t be possible once vehicles are on it!
“The community events day will be a celebration for all the family and I’d encourage anyone who can to come along and join in the fun.”
If you are part of any community group or club and would like to be a part of the day by organising a charity walk, run or cycle for your group at the event please contact Samantha Barton (samantha.barton@lifeleisure.net) who will be able to help you with this.
