Stockport County have welcomed new business The Seashell Fish & Chip shop in Heaton Moor as a new sponsor – the sign at Edgeley Park is the eatery’s first advertising.
The shop is owned by Matty Lee, the former Lottery Manager and lifelong fan and is his first business venture. He said:
As a lifelong County fan and former member of staff, I know how sponsoring the club can work for business and it ticked another thing off the list, along with being my own boss.”
The chippy is on Derby Range in Heaton Moor, which runs adjacent to Heaton Moor Road, at the rear of the Plough Pub. It is reputed to be one of the oldest chip shops in the UK and Matty has been investigating if it is the oldest one in the world. He continued:
One historic business getting involved with another is very important to me. As a fan, I am pleased to be able to offer County fans an increased 20% discount to any that bring in their season ticket or match day ticket when they place their order.”
The Edgeley Park club’s Commercial Manager, Simon Dawson, added:
I was delighted that Matty took out his sponsorship as we go back a long way. I have personal experience of the quality that he is serving at the shop, not only having been there, but occasionally Matty drops in with chips for Zahra and I too. I would recommend them to anybody.”
The shop has maintained many of the traditional aspects from when Matty took over, but he has also introduced a wider range of pies, including a very tasty vegan and vegetarian options and some more specialised dishes to tempt the discerning palate.
