Stockport County fans’ group, Help the Hatters, have taken a giant leap forward to bring the Hatters’ frog to Edgeley Park on a permanent basis.
At an auction, which raised more than £30,000 for Stepping Hill Children’s Ward, Help the Hatters secured the highest bid and landed Edgeleap.
As part of Stockport’s Giant Leap Frog Art Trail, Edgeleap – sponsored by C&C Insurance Brokers – had previously been on display in St Peter’s Square throughout the summer.
Stockport County fan group Help the Hatters received significant support from a third party to land the winning bid.
19 of the huge amphibians were unleashed in Stockport town centre earlier this year to create a huge frog trail celebrating Stockport’s own giant leap forward in securing a £1bn investment to transform the town centre.
The campaign was coordinated by Totally Stockport, Stockport’s Business Improvement District which spawned a large increase in footfall from data captured in August compared to the number of visitors in April.
Despite being newt to the area, the Stockport County frog is already a firm favourite with the Blue & White Army, and it was officially unveiled to the hoppy Hatters fans ahead of County’s home win over Dagenham & Redbridge.
