Following the Local Government Boundary Commission for England’s (LGBCE) review of Stockport’s ward boundaries, the Council will launch a consultation on locations of polling stations ahead of local elections next year.
Due to the changes in boundaries of many wards across Stockport, the Council is reviewing polling districts (subdivisions of wards used to help manage elections and counts) and the locations of polling stations where residents vote in all elections.
The recent ward boundary review will mean many Stockport residents will next vote in 2023 at a different polling station to where they have voted previously. The council wants to get residents’ views on the proposed polling district and polling station changes, and is asking for people to share their comments on how changes could affect them, and those they live with, in the future.
Caroline Simpson, Chief Executive and Returning Officer at Stockport Council, explained:
“It’s so important that we understand residents’ views on the changes proposed by the polling district review. This will affect the practicalities of how you vote, so it’s vital that we are able to understand any issues or concerns that may arise from the proposals. You can have your say online, via the physical forms located in public buildings across Stockport, or by post.”
Once the consultation is finished, Stockport Council will publish final recommendations which will show the new polling districts and polling stations for future elections. The first consultation period runs from 7th July to 18th August 2022.
The first consultation period runs from 7th July to 18th August 2022 and residents will be able to share their comments online, by email, or by writing to Electoral Services, Room 132, Town Hall, Edward Street, Stockport, SK1 3XE.
