Stockport Council has approved a comprehensive programme of investment in transport networks aimed at improving access within and around the borough for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
As part of the Investing in Stockport programme, the Council has committed over £320 million to bringing forward highway developments over the next 7 years, as well as continuing the ambitious programme of improvements to carriageways and pavements across the borough.

Drawing together funding secured from successful bids, the Council will manage the transport projects on behalf of partners that will see well publicised works, such as the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road and Town Centre Access Plan, being brought forward.
In addition to major road schemes, this announcement saw the green light being given to more than £4.1 million of investment towards a series of improvements to facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
Whilst these developments will bring great benefits for residents and businesses, the Council is committed to ensure that the impact of works for local residents and businesses and any disruption is kept to a minimum wherever possible.
Councillor Martin Candler, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Sustainability, said:
“Making Stockport an even better place to live, work and visit is important for all, and offering first class connectivity around our town is key to this. I am thrilled that this vital programme will be going ahead for the benefit of our residents and local businesses.”
