Community projects in the borough have been awarded £307,000 by the council’s Stockport Local Fund since the start of 2021.
The fund has supported 68 local projects to support the most vulnerable people in Stockport during the Covid-19 pandemic. Community projects to have received support include those that are tackling digital exclusion, offering befriending, providing coaching for the unemployed and addressing mental health. The fund has also supported projects for victims of domestic abuse, refugees, bereaved families, people with special educational needs or disabilities and young people at risk of being drawn into crime and violence; as well as helping to fund new orchards and green spaces, sensory spaces and creative workshops.
Cllr Amanda Peers, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Neighbourhoods said:
Stockport Local Fund has now been supporting the tremendous work of our VCSE sector for three years. During the pandemic we have truly come together as One Stockport to support those who are most vulnerable. These new awards recognise the tremendous effort this sector is making as part of the Stockport-wide response to COVID-19.
“We would like to thank everyone who has applied to Stockport Local Fund, and we’re delighted to be able to help fund so many different projects who are providing vital support. The scale of the funding granted reflects the breadth and quality of the ideas that groups and organisations in our voluntary and community sector are generating.”
While the Stockport Local Fund has now closed to applications, other community groups and organisations may be able to access funding opportunities elsewhere. VCSE network, Sector3 has compiled a resource of funding that organisations in Stockport may be able to access.
Stockport Local Fund is part of the One Stockport campaign which was launched as part of Stockport’s response to the COVID-19 crisis.
