Stockport residents are being invited to share the comments on traffic restrictions around schools after a trial during the summer term.
Seven schools in Stockport took part in a ‘School Streets’ trial, which restricted vehicle access to parents and guardians as well as through traffic at the beginning and end of the school day. The trial aimed to improve safety for pupils, encourage more to walk or cycle and reduce pockets of high air pollution due to parents idling their vehicles when dropping off and collecting children. Schools also hoped that the scheme would also encourage more social interaction between pupils on the journey to school.
The seven schools that took part in Stockport were: Adswood Primary, Bradshaw Hall Primary, Cheadle Primary, Our Lady’s Primary (Edgeley), St Joseph’s Primary, St Mary’s Primary (Reddish) and St Matthew’s Primary (Edgeley).
The council is now carrying out its second round of consultation and would like to know how the trials have operated for those affected. Feedback will help the council design future sustainable travel schemes that encourage more walking, cycling and scooting for everyone.
The council would particularly like to hear the views of people affected by the trials, including:
- Parents and guardians of children at schools talking part in the trial
- Residents of streets closed by the trial, and the wider neighbourhood
- Others affected by the School Streets trial
Residents should complete the survey via the council’s Consultation Portal before it closes on the 12th August.
