Children aged 5-18 years who live in Stockport can enter Stockport Council’s Music Service’s competition to win a Recording Studio experience. Entrants must ‘Like’ the Stockport Music Service on Facebook and post a picture of themselves practising music in a quirky, interesting place.
Pictures need to be posted by 16th October and the winner will be announced at the Family Fun Day on Saturday 18th October at 1.30pm.
The free Family Fun Day is open from 12 noon to 4.00pm and children, parents and grandparents will have the opportunity to try a host of musical experiences.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said
“It’s going to be a fantastic, interactive day and I would encourage people to come along. People will be able to try an African or Samba Workshop, be part of a ‘Scratch Choir’ (a community singalong), conduct a band, join an orchestra and enjoy performances by Stockport Schools Brass Band, Stockport Youth Orchestra and Pantonics All Star Steel Orchestra.”
There will also be a bouncy castle, face painting, cupcakes, pizza and light refreshments available on the day.
The Council’s Music Service provides musical tuition and loans instruments to children of school age from 5-18 years across all social groups. They are largely self-funded with some grants from the Arts Council.
Events this year include:
- November – Albert Hall Performance on 11th November
- December – Christmas Carol Concerts dates to be confirmed near the time
