Stockport County’s golf day ended with a double celebration for Peter Roles who, not only hit his first hole-in-one in a competition, but drove off in a brand new £22,000 Golf from Inchcape VW Stockport, insured by C&C Insurance Brokers.
Peter, playing with his team, the Thief’s Neck, from the Davenport Arms in Woodford, beat odds of around 12,500-to-one to score an ace from 162 yards on the three-par 14th hole at Houldsworth Golf Club in Reddish.
Rain stopped play after the team had played just eight holes.
Organisers decided the 14th would be the last of the day and Peter’s triumph came on his final shot, on the final hole of the day.
Peter from Bramhall, didn’t have particularly high hopes for the shot and was stunned to realise he’d made it – and achieved his first ever hole in one in competition conditions.
Peter, who plays off a handicap of five, said: “It was the last hole and my last shot.
“I saw the ball bounce and then just disappear for a split second.
“Normally, you’ll see it bounce and then roll to a stop.
“I really didn’t think it would get there because it was over water.
“Then I saw that a guy on the green had his hands up in the air, then I had my hands up.
“It was surreal. I’ve never had anything like it in a competition.
“Ive been with other people when it’s happened to them and it’s always exciting.
“There is just extreme joy when it happens to you. All the lads were as excited as I was.
“It was nice because there were quite a few of us there to witness it.
“It was superb. Things like this just don’t happen to me
“It was a great way to end the day. It’s a lovely car I’m thrilled to bits.”
