Marketing Stockport member C&C Insurance Brokers is one of three local businesses putting the Wellspring out on the road.
Homeless charity The Wellspring is about to launch ‘Wellspring Collects’ with the use of a new van donated by Cardinal Maritime. C&C Insurance Brokers have donated the insurance cost for the vehicle, and Asda in Stockport has donated a parking space.
The van will collect donations from around Stockport from people’s own homes.
The project has enabled The Wellspring to employ Nicky Barry, a young man who used the charity’s services for some time when he was homeless and sleeping rough.
With support from the Wellspring, Nicky has addressed many of his problems, including drug addiction, and is now living in private accommodation.
Nicky has been volunteering at The Wellspring for six months and will become a paid employee when the service launches in August.
Charlie McGonagle from Cardinal Maritime said: “We are delighted to support the Wellspring with the wonderful work they do and when Jonathan informed us of the plan to employ Nicky we really wanted to help.
“The charity committee here at Cardinal are dedicated to supporting local charities and projects, and having met Nicky and knowing his story and the effort he’s made to turn his life around we were very happy to provide this van to the project and get Nicky into employment.”
Nicola Lowery from C&C Insurance Brokers added: “We feel that any help and support given to the homeless and disadvantaged is invaluable and being able to provide the insurance to help get the new vehicle on the road was our pleasure, and the very least we could do.”
People who wish to make donations to The Wellspring of clothing or food will be able to have them collected.
Food is used to serve around 1,000 meals per week to people in need, and clothing is either given to people sleeping rough on the streets or sold to raise vital funds for the charity.
Jonathan Billings, project manager at The Wellspring, said: “Having a collection service adds another string to The Wellspring’s bow and this is something we’ve been planning and working towards for some time. We can’t thank Cardinal Maritime, C&C Insurance Brokers and ASDA in Stockport town centre enough.”
