This winter’s unusually wet season has seen an increase in insurance claims and, while many claimants may be fully protected, it has prompted local insurance broker C&C to urge policy holders to check that they have the right cover.
C&C are concerned that some businesses and home owners may not have the correct type and amount of insurance cover.
For example, insurance cover for household insurance can include:-
- Accidental damage
- Cover for possessions away from the home
- Money cover
- Freezer contents cover
- Cover for items in an outbuilding Legal expenses cover
But each of these can be classed as an ‘extra’ and may not automatically be included in the policy.
C&C Insurance Brokers managing director Malcolm Cooke (left) explains:
“With reference to property insurance, some common exclusions that policy holders may not be aware of are damage to hedges, fences and gates as a result of storm.
“Costly mistakes can be made if you discover upon making a claim that you do not have the appropriate insurance cover”.
C&C Insurance Brokers understand that insurance can be very complex, including the use of industry jargon that people do not always fully understand.
Malcom continues:
“My best advice is to obtain help from a broker; these are professional advisors with an extensive knowledge of all of the different types of insurance policies available; they can recommend the exact type of insurance policy and level of cover required to suit an individual’s particular requirements.
“In the unfortunate event of your having to make a claim, your broker should assist you in the claims handling process as part of their overall customer service.”
