Local housing provider, Stockport Homes, has won an industry award for having one of the best resident campaigns for fire safety throughout the entire UK.
This award, delivered by Inside Housing, proves the borough’s dedication to providing safe places to live for everyone.
The campaign saw Stockport Homes, which manages nearly 12,000 social homes in the borough with more than 30,000 residents, interview nearly 2,000 of their residents to understand their knowledge of fire safety and to find out how they would best like to learn. This was followed up by letters, infographics, digital boards and a social media campaign to ensure as many Stockport residents as possible know how to keep safe.
Their recent resident safety campaign was run off the back of Stockport Homes being one of a select group of social landlords chosen by the Government’s Ministry of Housing to explore how key fire safety information is processed and understood by people. Following the campaign, Stockport Homes ensured residents’ voices and feedback will influence national fire safety policy.
The Ministry of Housing approached Stockport Homes for this information after recommendations from the independent Hackitt review into the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Jenny Osbourne, Chair of Stockport Homes Board, said:
We are glad that Stockport residents have reacted positively to our campaign about safety and we hope this goes towards making Stockport one of the safest boroughs in the UK for fire safety. This will not be the end of our safety campaigns, collaboration with the fire service was key in this campaign and we plan to do even more.”
