Associated British Foods gives thanks to its workforce for feeding the nation

Associated British Foods, parent company of Allied Bakeries, has produced a short-video detailing how the company has stepped up to ensure supermarket shelves remain stocked with essential items including breads, flour and cereals, and giving thanks to the key workers on its production lines.

Despite social distancing restrictions meaning fewer of the company’s operatives can work on production lines across the UK, staff at the group have been able to increase production of brands including Allinsons, Jordans cereals, Ryvita and Kingsmill.  Some productions lines have been able to increase output by 20-30% or more.

While much of the increased output has gone to meeting increased customer demand, the group, including Allied Bakeries, have also donated over 150,000 items to food banks and other community groups to ensure vulnerable people continue to have access food during the coronavirus outbreak.

Carl Hampson, General Manager at Allied Bakeries operation in Bredbury said:

“I am immensely proud of the team here at Stockport who have stepped up to the plate and worked around the clock to meet the increased demand while adjusting to the new restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. We have also been able to contribute to local food banks, as well as delivering  fresh bread to NHS and Care staff. Being part of the ABF Family, we all feel a sense of belonging and I am delighted that we have been able to do our bit to help our community, ensuring that no one will need to walk alone”.

In addition to maximising output, the business has also increased safety and hygiene measures in its factories to keep staff safe.  Associated British Foods has ensured social distancing guidelines are followed across its sites and brands.  Cleaning of all areas of the group’s factories, including staff facilities, has also increased to protect the business’ workforce.

Sarah Arrowsmith, Chief Executive, UK Grocery Group, at Associated British Foods also expressed her thanks to production line staff across the organisation, saying:

“The people coming in every day are just doing an amazing job feeding the nation, and for that we say a heartfelt thank you. I can’t believe how proud I am to work with such an amazing team.”
