An exciting new artwork project has been unveiled at Stockport Rail Station – a collaboration between Virgin Trains, Stockport Council and Arts for Recovery (Arc).
The artwork highlights the work of Arc supporting people to rebuild their self‐confidence and fulfil their potential as healthy and resilient citizens and will remain on site for approximately a year.

Jacqui Wood, Arc’s Artist Director, said:
“Arc is delighted to present the work of our participants here at the station with the support of the Council. For those vulnerable people who have made the work, it is both scary and exciting to know that it is being seen by the public on their travels.
“Through taking part in the project they gained skills in art and design, and through this installation they’ll hopefully gain a huge amount of confidence and self-esteem. It’s a great way to raise awareness of mental health issues that affect so many of us, and of publicising the services that are available to support those suffering.”
Councillor Martin Candler, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Sustainability, added:
“This initiative illustrates what can be achieved through positive partnership working. It not only enhances the appearance of the station but also shows the impact that art can have on the wellbeing of individuals.”
Lesley Ross, Virgin Trains Station Manager in Stockport, said:
“We are proud to host this new artwork which will be seen by the millions of customers who pass through the station each year. It has already generated some really positive comments and we are delighted to support such a fantastic community project.”
