Emma Husband and her dog ‘Timo’ completed the 60 mile trek, over 2 days last week, along the Shropshire Union and Llangollen Canal in aid of the Dogs Trust, which Emma supports for their fantastic work.
Emma, who works at MAN Diesel & Turbo UK in Hazel Grove, started out in Nantwich on Day 1, walking the Shropshire Union Canal to eventually meet up with the Llangollen Canal.
Timo, although a reactive dog (which stems from fear from his past), dealt very well with meeting new people, runners, cyclists, canal boats and he even met a frog which jumped out of the grass and startled him, Timo then screeched and backed up nearly plunging himself and Emma into the canal! Obviously when you are walking a canal towpath it can get a bit ‘samey’ so Emma looked for opportunities to break up the walk and found a beautiful lake just before Ellesmere, so Timo took the opportunity to go in and soak his paws for a while.
Emma had to hand Timo back to Neil, Emma’s husband so that she could conquer the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Emma has a fear of heights and had to hold on to the barrier with both hands, it was either that or she would have had to crawl across on her hands and knees, this was a very frightening moment for Emma but she got across with no major incidents.
Emma and Timo reached Llangollen at about 8pm on Day 2 and was overjoyed just to be able to take off her walking boots!
